Stella Maris Academy

Stella Maris Academy

As parents whose children are educated in La Jolla, California, Gregg and Lisa Whitney understand first hand the importance of selecting the right school, whether public or private, for your child.   Because many of the homes sold by Gregg and Lisa Whitney are to families, they have provided this helpful school information to you to help in your real estate decision process.

As an independent, co-educational, private, non-profit, kindergarten through the eighth grade, Catholic school, Stella Maris Academy recognizes that parents are the primary educators of their children, and that Stella Maris—although one of the most effective means in assisting parents in teaching their children—it is not the primary influence.

It is the goal of Stella Maris to provide a learning environment for your child in which intellectual abilities, moral decision making, and Christian values and attitudes can be developed by students.  Dedicated to a holistic approach, their teachers believe that all needs of each child are to be addressed as to develop the entire individual.  Positive self-esteem and worth are qualities Stella Maris feels are extremely important, and is something teachers help their students to address, feeling that children who believe in themselves believe in their own abilities to learn.

Students are challenged, supported and facilitated in their development through a positive and exciting learning approach.  Each child’s initiative, creativity and leadership potential are harvested through a variety of fun and friendly activities.  Students of any race, color, religion, national and/or ethnic origin are welcomed by Stella Maris Academy.  The educational knowledge and values taught by the teachers are those that any and every child can grow from.

Stella Maris Academy realizes that every student is an individual and, as such, has a personal expression, learning style, and abilities which are embraced by this teaching community.  Although the school is a Parochial School of Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church, children of other religions as well as other parishes are accepted as long as space is available.  Two-hundred and eighteen students are accepted annually and all are required to wear uniforms.

The schools mission is for students to be taught and guided in their moral, spiritual, academic and social development, as well as to grow into individuals who are helpful to the community, value their Catholic education and make a contribution to the Church.  Stella Maris Academy hopes to offer your child a challenging education relative to the needs and talents of your child, a sense of community among other students, a moral sensitivity toward the poor, and a respect for God and all of creation.
