The schools curriculum meets the California state standards and is dedicated to not only graduating as many students as possible, but also getting as many students accepted to college as possible.
The school has thus far been very successful in educating their students as over ninety percent of the students who graduate continue their education at a university or college; a large number of these universities and colleges are also Ivy League, out-of-state, and University of California institutions. Seventy-five percent of the schools student population is from the surrounding area of La Jolla, the remaining twenty-five percent of students come from out of the area in order to be able to attend La Jolla High School.
The school has received the California Distinguished School award, is a Nationally Certified AVID School with Distinction, a Cum Laude Society School, and a Newsweek Top 100 School, among other honors it has earned.
The La Jolla High Senior School mission is to make the overall education experience of each student a significant and important part of that individuals life. It is also the schools goal to enhance the learning process by soliciting, managing and disbursing the schools funds in order to support the different interests, activities, and needs of the student body, such as academic, athletic and extracurricular needs. These funds are also used on the buildings and grounds in order to take care of the physical environment the schools students are subject to daily.
Educators and faculty take on the role to encourage students to get involved; no matter the personality type, or style of the individual, there is a place in every activity for any and everyone. Tutoring is readily available for those who wish to utilize it, and teachers make the extra effort to make sure that students do not fall behind in their studies. Both students’ personal and educational success is very important to La Jolla Senior High, as they are willing to help everyone reach their goals.
