Helping students to understand and critically think about the books they read is part of the literacy program established by the school district; students are given exciting assignments in which they must express their feelings on a book they’ve read in writing and orally. Rich text in both narrative and nonfiction are read, and students are encouraged to view reading and writing as enthusiastically at their instructors. Literacy tests are an important part of this process, as the school is able to accurately gauge where you child stands in their reading and writing skills, in order to know where to being teaching and better assist them in during the learning process, which is intended to be enjoyable. These tests also keep parents updated on their child’s progression in the reading and writing areas.
La Jolla Elementary School feels that parent involvement in their child’s education is a large part of student success, therefore, parents are strongly encouraged to get involved and take part in their child’s education.
