Because many of the homes sold by Gregg and Lisa Whitney are to families, they have provided this helpful school information to you to help in your real estate decision process.
Established in 1952, The Gillispie School was founded by Ada Gillispie and her husband Dr. Samuel T. Gillispie, who was not only a local pediatrician, but also a civic leader as well. The school was intended to be a testimony to future generations to continue to stay committed to the care and education for children in the community.
Enrolling three hundred and five students from toddler through grade six, the Gillispie School is an independent, co-educational day school. It has four buildings which house fourteen classrooms, a technology lab, a science lab, a fine arts center, a library and a gymnasium; in order to provide areas for recess and physical education, there are also two playgrounds. Located in downtown La Jolla, California, students who attend The Gillispie School enjoy the many resources of San Diego’s libraries, museums, parks and coastline.
Addressing each child’s strengths and capabilities, the Gillispie learning programs are designed to provide a thorough and enriching education taught in a nurturing, safe environment that helps all students develop as a whole. It is the goal of the school to help children grow to be enthusiastic about learning, exhibit strength in character, and who are respectful of diversity.
The Gillispie School is dedicated to the use of teaching practices that are innovative, traditional, and best foster the development of each child. Developmentally appropriate opportunities for children to grow academically, creatively, physically and socially are provided daily. Encouraged to face challenges, students learn through experimentation and critical thinking, growing into independent, imaginative and self-motivated individuals.
The culture fostered by the school strongly promotes each child’s interaction and communication skills, enabling students to become effective and meaningful contributors to society. The school strongly values a positive partnership between educators and parents, and believes that such a relationship is necessary in order to promote and embrace a common educational philosophy and goal. The Gillispie School highly values dedicated teachers who model a love for learning, and believe in inspiring students to be inquisitive, passionate and curious about knowledge and intellectual pursuits.
