Founded in 1909, the Bishop’s School displays a peaceful, relaxed setting built on co-founder Ellen Browning Scripps philosophy that “the silent influences of the environment play a part in the deepening and development of the mind.” Closely affiliated with the Episcopal Church, the school reflects that belief that the combination of spiritual awareness and knowledge is one necessary for students to better function as kind and effective adults in this rapidly changing world. The Bishop’s School, as a college preparatory school, believes certain skills, knowledge, and the ability to effectively reason are paramount in meeting the demands of college education in today’s world, and to grow from such demands.
The Bishop’s Schools mission is not only to challenge and stimulate students academically, but to integrate moral views and help define personal ethics that help adolescence grow into well-rounded adults. Developing students as a whole is a very important goal of The Bishop’s School.
This warm and stimulating environment has an approximate annual tuition of 22,750. Seven hundred and twenty-five students are enrolled per year; the break down of the male to female ration is about fifty-fifty. For grades seven though twelve, this independent day school provides and environment in which students are challenged yet supported, and encouraged to push themselves to succeed.
Average class size is roughly fifteen, and the average student to teacher ration is 8:1; this allows a more personal and one on one relationship to be formed between student and teacher, as concepts are explored in a more collegial atmosphere. With strong academics, competitive athletics, and dynamic arts, students are introduced to a number of unique opportunities as they further explore their own identity and develop their talents and skills.
As a fully accredited school by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, The Bishop’s School is a member of the College Board, CAIS, NAIS, WACAC, Cum Laude Society, French Honor Society, National Forensic League, and National Association of Episcopal Schools. The faculty consists of a strong community of teachers connected by the common passion for his or her subject matter; all selected according to their capacity to teach, stimulate, interest, and guide students, they are nationally recruited and bring with them a variety of educational and life experiences. Each and every student is assigned to a faculty advisor to meet with everyday, designed to be an academic, social and behavioral support. In addition, these advisors plan schedules and review grades, assuring that no student is able to “fall through the cracks.” The Bishop’s school has developed a strong and encouraging environment, dedicated to the future of every student.
